69:71 loss in overtime against Zwickau
Saturday, 9. January 2016
FCK Rolling Devils have lost their game against BSC Rollers Zwickau in overtime narrowly with 69:71. A few odds and ends decided a completely even game in favor of the guest team.
Kaiserslautern could not prepare well for the game with only few training lessons after the Christmas break and Jake Williams' yesterday's return from the US national team tryouts. However, even the jetlag didn't prevent him from playing well and scoring 29 points. Kai Möller played a very strong game against his former team with 21 points and high scoring rate. Match winner for Zwickau was old hand Rostislav Pohlmann (28 points), followed by Vaytautas Skuca (22) and Frank Oehme (10).
The game took an even course in the first two quarters (18:18, 13:12) and the Devils showed a better scoring rate and more solid defense with many rebounds compared with the previous games. Shortly after half-time, the Devils achieved a 7-point-lead (39:32), but Zwickau fought back to an even 43:43 score at the end of the third quarter and then a 51:56 lead in minute 35. Jake Williams and Kai Möller with several successful shots brought Kaiserslautern back into the game (61:60), but then Rostislav Pohlmann with a successful free throw saved his team from a defeat in regular time.
90 seconds before the end of overtime, the Devils again seemed to be slightly ahead with a 69:67 lead and ball possession. But then, Kaiserslautern didn't manage to score a single point, whereas Zwickau decided the game with some successful free throws.
With this game, FCK Rolling Devils have missed the chance to draw level with Zwickau and Munich. Next weekend, the team plays the farthest away game of the season in Hamburg.
